WATCH: Gozo celebrates and welcomes Michela – winner of X Factor Malta

It wasn’t only the impeccable interpretation of the song “Inti Djamant” during the final of the first edition of X Factor Malta  which made Gozitans proud but also the performance of young Gozitan singer, Michela Pace, who won the first edition of X Factor Malta show.

Following a close contest between the four finalist singers, Michela Pace – who on the final’s eve celebrated her 18th birthday – won the final with the public’s votes, which triggered joyful celebrations in her island that reached their peak on Sunday afternoon when she was welcomed with great enthusiasm on her return to Imġarr port.

The final of the first edition of X Factor Malta will be remembered in the history of local television productions for its high level production. Thousands of fans gathered at the MFCC in Ta’ Qali on Saturday evening to watch the decisive performances of the four finalists: Nicole Frendo, Petra, Owen Leuellen and Michela. Hundreds of thousands others watched the final on screens and home televisions and at entertainment spots.

The evening started with interpretations of the song that led them to success during the first rehearsals and continued with performances of Maltese classical songs in one of the most moving moments of the final, which was welcomed with applause for the way the four singers interpreted the nostalgic Maltese songs in a contemporary way.

The spectacle included duets with singers Ira Losco and Ray Mercieca, who formed part of the X Factor Malta jury and with singer Matthew James and tenor Joseph Calleja.

The peak of the evening arrived with the announcement of the final result – a most awaited moment until the winner was declared by televoting.

Rapper Owen Leuellen was classified in second place, while Nicole Frendo and Petra finished in third and fourth place respectively.

Michaela Pace also won an international contract with Sony company and will represent Malta in the Eurovision Song Contest next May in Israel.

Special guest at Saturday’s final was the winning singer of X Factor UK, Dalton Harris who enchanted the audience with his magic voice when he interpreted The Power of Love, with X Factor 2012 winner James Arthur accompanying the song. Now that the X Factor Malta’s first edition ended, producers are already thinking about the second edition for next season.
