WATCH: Logo and theme of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest Valletta 2016 announced
On the eve of the Eurovision Song Contest, Maltese Singer Ira Losco performed her final rehearsals of the song “Walk on Water” before this evening when she will perform at the final night of the European contest.
Speaking to TVM, Ira Losco appealed to the Maltese public for support before Saturday’s big evening during which she will sing “Walk on Water” in the 22 position.
On Friday, Ira also met Destiny Chukunyere, the Maltese winner of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest as the European Broadcasting Union and the Public Broadcasting Services PBS gave the first details of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest, which will be held next November in various places in Valletta.
During a press conference, PBS Chief Executive, Anton Attard, gave a presentation on the general concept of the Junior Eurovision 2016 in Malta. The logo and the theme “Embrace” that represent the four values of the Junior Eurovision – connectivity, diversity, creativity and respect – were also revealed. The aim is for all the young participants to embrace cultures, traditions and different music during this year’s edition.
The final night of the festival will be held from a number of places around Valletta City, including the Mediterranean Conference Centre where the final evening will he held, Manoel Theatre and St George’s Square. This is a new concept for the Junior Eurovision with various other events planned for the week before the final night.
Changes were also announced in the voting process, a sort of pilot project, and an appointed Steering Group has approved the removal of the televoting in the final evening of the Junior Eurovision. Every country will give its votes on the songs through two panels of jury – one made up of five adults and another composed of five children. The adult jury voting will be shown graphically on a scoreboard, and then the presenter will announce the children’s vote that will determine the result.
