WATCH: Man stops flights after driving onto runway at Lyon airport

Flights from Lyon airport in France are grounded until 6.00 p.m. this evening, after a man who was being followed by Police drove onto the runway.

In a video clip posted on social media, the car is seen being driven onto the runway at high speed, and at one point also appears about to flip over.

The car is also seen crashing into some items before stopping, with the driver emerging and trying to escape on foot. Several Police officers are seen chasing after him in a number of vehicles, until he is apprehended.

Lyon is the fourth busiest airport in France, and is a departure point for EasyJet and Air France flights. Flights already in the air en route to Lyon are being requested to reroute to Geneva, Grenoble, Marseilles or Nice, and flights departing from Lyon have been cancelled.
