Watch: Man who slapped President Macron sentenced to four months imprisonment
Damien Tarel, the man who last Tuesday slapped French President Emmanuel Macron, was sentenced to four months in prison after admitting the charges against him.
Tarel said he acted impulsively, but the prosecution said the attack was deliberate.
It was said in court that Tarel was close to an extreme right-wing faction and was also close to the yellow breast movement.
President Marcon said the attack should not be trivialized but taken proportionately.
The attack came shortly after Macron left a school cum hotel in the town of Tain-l’Hermitage as he approached a crowd who waiting for him behind an iron barricade.
