WATCH: No more waiting for official electoral results – will be known on same day of counting

Principal Electoral Commissioner, Joseph Church, said during an interview with TVM that in May next year, the official results of the voting in the European Parliament and Local Council elections will be issued within 12 or 14 hours – at the same day of counting of votes.

This will be possible as the counting of votes during next year’s elections will be made with a digital system.

Mr Church said that the digital system was designed on the Scottish model which follows the same concept of the single transfer voting.

This revolutionary system, he added, will analyze each vote through scanning where it will be assisted with a verifying system of adjudicators.

Mr Church also said that a new layer was created whereby a person appointed by the Commission, together with parties’ observers, will be monitoring and have to unanimously agree on the validity of the votes.
