Watch: Part of Qormi valley to be transformed into garden with an investment of €1 million from NDSF
The locality of Qormi will benefit from a green project, through an investment of one million euros from the Social and National Development Fund (NDSF).
At a news conference by Environment and Planning Minister Aaron Farrugia,h Economy and Industry Minister Silvio Schembri and Parliamentary Secretary for Citizenship and Communities Alex Muscat, an agreement was signed between the Land Authority and GreenServ in order to carry out this and other similar projects.
Part of the storm water culvert will be turned into a space that can be enjoyed by residents. Many trees and aromatic plants will also be planted which, in addition to greening this busy area, will also provide shade for the number of benches that will be installed. A 200-metre running track will be created that will be circling the perimeter which will be isolated from the road by trees which are to be planted. Accessibility will be facilitated both for residents who want to access the surrounding shops, as well as for cars to cross to Valley Road. A small street level car park will also be introduced which will be increasing parking spaces in this area.
Parliamentary Secretary Alex Muscat said that this was not an isolated project, but part of a series of projects that can be carried out with an investment from the NDSF. This particular project, with an investment of € 4.5 million, is translating into greening projects in Hamrun, Mosta, Qormi and Żabbar.
