WATCH: Record number of fires destroy substantial part of the Amazon

Controversy continues to rage in Brazil between President Jair Bolsonaro and NGOs. this was after statistics from a space agency show that this year, the world’s largest lung, the Amazon,  has been enveloped by a record number of fires, almost 73,000 case in all. The Amazon is inhabited by one million people and three million species of animals and plants.

Environmentalists are pointing their fingers at Bolsonaro for this disaster because he said that he is encouraging farmers to chop down trees haphazardly. On the other hand, Bolsonaro alleged that environmentalists are setting the fires on purpose as an act of revenge against the Government for cutting their funds.

As a result of the smoke from the fires, the city of Sao Paulo has been plunged into darkness because of a power cut.
