WATCH: Tesla car catches fire in Shanghai

The American car company Tesla, which manufactures electric cars, said that it was investigating a video doing the rounds on social media in which one of its cars can be seen catching fire.

In the video, taken by a CCTV camera in the underground car park in Shanghai, one can see a parked Tesla Model S.  Suddenly, smoke starts coming out from underneath the car, and a few seconds later it is engulfed in flames.

The Model S is one of the most popular models by this prestigious brand, whose price starts at €83,000.

Tesla says that its electric cars have 10 times more of a chance of catching fire than cars which run on petrol. Since 2013, 14 cases of Tesla cars which caught fire have been reported, however many of the incidents occurred following a collision.
