Watch the official opening of the Maltese EU Presidency live tonight TVM and

The Maltese Presidency of the EU will open officially this evening with a ceremony which will take place at the Mediterranean Conference Centre in Valletta. Last night saw the arrival of the European Commissioners together with the President of the European Commission Jean Claude Juncker. The EU has 28 Commissioners, all responsible for different sectors, including Maltese Commissioner Karmenu Vella.

On a day packed with commitments, the EC President Juncker began the day with a meeting with the President of’ Malta, Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca, this morning at the San Anton palace. During the day the Commissioners will be meeting with Maltese ministers at the palace in Valletta. Later this morning at Castille, the PM Joseph Muscat will meet with Jean Claude Juncker during which they are expected to hold bilateral talks. Later, PM Muscat and the EC President will be holding a joint press conference at Castille which will be transmitted live on

Later today, Jean Claude Juncker will visit Parliament together with the European Commissioners where they will meet the Speaker of the House, Anglu Farrugia. Meanwhile, later today, the President of the European Council, Donald Tusk, will arrive to hold bilateral talks with the PM at Castille. The main event will take place this evening at the MCC where there will be the official opening ceremony of the Maltese Presidency of the EU.

Television Malta today will be keeping you continuously updated on the events being attended by the highest EU officials in Malta. TVM will be transmitting a live programme after 6pm this evening which will include studio guests, and which will lead up to the ceremony and the artistic representation by Zfin Malta and the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Malta.
