WATCH: Two teenagers injured in Paola crash after driving at great speed in same direction
At least two people were admitted to hospital following a collision between two cars in Triq Duminku Mintoff, known as MCAST hill in Paola.
According to the police, the accident happened at 9.40pm. From the initial investigations, it results that the accident happened when the two cars were allegedly being driven in the same direction at the same speed next to each other.
It appears that one of the cars, a Peugeot 106, which was being driven by a 19-year-old resident of Qormi, crashed into a tree and hit the other car, a Toyota, driven by an 18-year-old, also a resident of Qormi, causing it to jump over the central strip. The first car remained on the other side of the road but the impact was so powerful that the engine was ripped out of one of the cars.
Because some of the people involved were trapped in their cars, members of the Civil Protection Department had to be called to the scene as well as a number of ambulances.
Although at first three people were admitted to the hospital, according to the Police only two were injured, with the 19-year-old certified as having suffered serious injuries while the other teenager sustained slight injuries.
The road was closed to traffic in both directions for some time until the two vehicles had been removed. The Police investigations continue.
