WATCH: Video released which shows Police officer in Chicago shooting and killing 13-year-old boy

The Chicago Police force has released a graphic video showing an officer shooting and killing a 13-year-old boy who was later identified as Adam Toledo. The case occurred on 29 March.

The video was taken by the officer’s bodycam who is seen running after the teenager and ordering him to stop. The boy stops, and the officer tells him to put his hands up.

The teenager is seen opening his hands as ordered and in one hand an object can be seen. In a fraction of a second, a gunshot is heard and the teenager falls to the ground. A gun can be seen where the boy is laying.

The Police is heard telling the teenager to stay awake while other officers rush to the scene to start CPR.

It was stated that the Police were called to the scene after a 21-year-old man who was in Toledo’s company fired a shot at a car. The man was caught and was charged in Court.

The Mayor of Chicago, Lori Lightfoot, has appealed for calm. She said that society had failed Adam and that, “we cannot afford to fail another person in our city”.

This is the second case in which a young man was killed by the Police in the last two weeks after Daunte Wright was killed in Minneapolis on 11 April.
