WATCH: We took part in Eurovision on 32 occasions – and your favourite entry is…?
We have sometimes fared well, having placed among the top countries; on other occasions, we could have done better. We have never, however, won the Eurovision Song Contest. Of all our entries, which song has remained the topmost favourite among the Maltese?
Our debut at this festival was not exactly the best. We started off on the wrong foot – with Joe Grech and ‘Marija l-Maltija’ in 1971, followed by Helen and Joseph with ‘L-Imħabba’ in 1972, both of which didn’t do well.
As time went by we started getting better results. Among others, with ‘Little Child’ in 1992 Mary Spiteri started pushing Malta closer to the top of the classification. And in 2002 and 2005, Ira Losco and Chiara came close, with ‘7th Wonder’ and ‘Angel’ making it to second place.
Malta took part in the Eurovision contest on 32 occasions. The contest has become even tougher since 2004 when semifinals were introduced. It has to be stated, however, that the singers who represented Malta year after year always gave of their best, in the hope that Malta would get a good placing. As for this year, Covid-19 has dashed our hopes!

Meanwhile, tomorrow at 9.00 p.m. on TVM, Dorian and Amber will continue to keep alive the spirit of Eurovision, since it is regretfully not being held this year. Both presenters will continue to regale TVM viewers with more Maltese songs, rekindling memories of this musical spectacle so beloved by millions.
