Infrastructure Malta has announced that road works on the Regional road and the surrounding junctions are now complete.
The work included the rebuilding of an arterial road from the tal-Qroqq tunnels to Santa Venera, the addition of two lanes from this road and the rebuilding of seven junctions which connect with it. The agency has also rebuilt the bridge over Valley road in Msida and has improved the crash barriers between the two carriageways.
In a statement, Infrastructure Malta said that in one part of Regional road there was an average of one accident per week, half of which were very serious. Many of the accidents happened in the junction which connects Valley Road in Msida, Old Railway road in Birkirkara and Triq il-Kappillan Mifsud, Santa Venera, with the northbound carriageway on Regional road.
Infrastructure Malta said that changes were made to this junction in the lane which directly links with the northbound carriageway on Regional road to reduce the risks of. accidents and. travelling times. When you are at this junction there is now no longer any need to move from one lane to the other to enter Regional road.
Further up on this carriageway, a new lane will also reduce the delays in leaving Regional Road to get onto the B’Kara Bypass (Psaila street), the University of Malta and Mater Dei hospital.
In the opposite direction, on the second new lane on Regional road, vehicles travelling from the ramp which joins the Tal-Qroqq roundabout (near the skatepark) with the southbound lane, can now keep going straight towards Santa Venera.
