Weather storm: Flooded roads and bays

Today’s bad weather led to flooding in some roads and bays, including Ramla l-Ħamra and Marsalforn in Gozo.

The weather storm also led to flooded roads especially in Triq Diċembru 13 in Marsa, near the Marsa new junction, Msida, Mġarr, Santa Venera, Blata l-Bajda and Naxxar among others. The flooded roads led to traffic congestion in these areas and other major arteries, especially under the Regional Road tunnels.

Enemalta said that the bad weather caused faults in the electricity distribution system and resulted in power cuts in parts of Ħaż-Żebbuġ, Ħal Qormi, Ħamrun, Santa Venera, Ħal Luqa, Ħal Tarxien, il-Gudja, Bidnija and Wardija. Enemalta stated that its workers are working on these faults so that electricity supply will be back to normal in the least possible time.

The weather storm also led to the diversion of a Ryanair flight from Leeds to land in Catania airport instead of Malta. However, other flights from and to Malta observed their original schedule.

The Malta International Airport’s meteorological office is predicting that instability and bad weather are expected to persist till at least tomorrow with thundery rainfall and wind gust, and at times also with hail storms.
