What happened in the first debate between the two US Presidential candidates for the November election?

An atmosphere of confrontation and anger characterised the first debate between the two US Presidential candidates for the elections which are being held this November.

The President and Republican candidate Donald Trump and the Democratic candidate Joe Biden bickered and argued over various issues from Covid-19, to the way Trump has dealt with the problem of crime, health care and at some points even members of their family became a topic of debate.

A crucial moment in the debate came when Trump was challenged to condemn White Supremacists as the US has been gripped by the tension caused by racial hatred.

Millions of people followed the debate which was anchored by FOX News journalist Chris Wallace.
