Nearly half of Maltese travellers still opt for traditional destinations like Italy and the United Kingdom. Figures released by the National Statistics Office show that during the first three months of this year nearly 147,000 Maltese citizens travelled abroad for holidays, work purposes or for other reasons.
The NSO stated that between January and March of this year an increase of over 9,000 trips by Maltese travellers was registered when compared to the same three months of last year. The NSO added that during this period, the Maltese spent nearly 113 million euro on travel. This works out at 769 euro per capita for each trip.
