Which were the films which made the biggest hit in 2019?

The awards season has officially opened in Los Angeles with the 77th edition of the Golden Globes which was held on 5 January. Yesterday, the nominations for the BAFTA awards for films, documentaries, actors, and producers were also announced. These honours are awarded by the British film industry.  The 73rd edition of the BAFTAS will be held on 2 February at the Royal Albert Hall in London.

There are various films nominated for the BAFTAS which also won the Golden Globe including Joker which has received 11 BAFTA nominations including for best film, best director Todd Philips, best actor Jaoquin Phoenix and best cinematography.

The Irishman has ten BAFTA nominations including in the prestigious categories for best film and best director, Martin Scorsese.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood by director Quenton Tarantino whose film won the honour of best Best Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical and best screenplay at the Golden Globes is nominated in ten categories at the BAFTAS, including for best film and best director. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood was also nominated for best screenplay at the BAFTAS. Actor Leonardo di Caprio is nominated for best actor for the same film in his role as Rick Dalton.

The winer of best film at the Golden Globes, 1917, is nominated in nine categories at the BAFTAS including for best film and best director  Sam Mendes,  who also received the nomination for best British film.

Jojo Rabbit received six nominations while Marriage Story, The Two Popes and Little Women received five BAFTA nominations each. The main actors of The Two Popes, Jonathon Pryce and Anthony Hopkins received nominations for best actors in a leading role and in a supporting role as Papa Francis and Pope Benedict XVI respectively,.

Actor Tom Hanks who was given a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Golden Globes is also nominated for best supporting actor in A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, in his role as the legendary children’s presenter Fred Rogers.
