A 25-year-old Italian woman, a resident of Naxxar, is in danger of dying after being involved in a traffic accident in Swieqi.
The accident occurred in St Andrew’s Road, Swieqi at about 7.30 a.m. It appears from preliminary investigations that a collision occurred between a Renault Clio vehicle which was being driven by a 27-year-old man from Mosta, and a Royal Enfield motorcycle which was being driven by a 32-year-old man from Naxxar.
The Italian woman was riding pillion on the motorcycle at the time of the accident.
A medical team was called to the scene and rendered first assistance, and an ambulance transferred the motorcyclist and the Italian pillion rider to Mater Dei Hospital for further treatment. The man was later certified to be suffering from slight injuries, whilst the woman was certified to be suffering from critical injuries.
Duty Magistrate Claire-Louise Stafrace Zammit was notified and appointed a number of experts to assist in an inquiry.
Investigations by St Julians District Police officers are ongoing.
