Work on Paola square in final phase – church facade restoration to start soon
Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government and Communities, Silvio Parnis, said that work on the Paola square principal road is in its final stage.
Mr Parnis stated while visiting the square that in the coming days restoration work will also start on the church facade which was agreed to between the Government and the Church.
He added that work on the square is moving on, both on its central area, in the Green Corrido, and on the Parish Church parvis. The Parliamentary Secretary noted that the square’s principal road has now become a two-way wide road, made from porfido and not asphalt.
Mr Parnis further stated that when he was chairman of the Consultative Council for the South of Malta he felt the need of a commercial centre in the south, which will generate more work and business. Following various studies, it was decided that the ideal zone was Pjazza Antoine De Paule in Paola.
The new chairman of the Consultative Council, Etienne Grech, said that the work in towns in the southern part of Malta will continue.
