Work starts to widen Triq tal-Balal

Works are being carried to widen Triq tal-Balal, the main road between Naxxar, Għargħur, Iklin and San Gwann. The Transport, Infrastructure and Capital Projects Ministry said that the work is being done to address the difficulties associated with this main road.

Infrastructure Malta is carrying out words which extend from the roundabout at the top of the road which joins Triq tal-Balal with Naxxar, Iklin and Triq M. Murray to and from Għargħur, and ends in San Gwann.

The works include the building a of a new 2 km lane towards the end of this road which leads from Naxxar to San Gwann, and the re-building of four roundabouts in Triq tal-Balal, in order to introduce new bypass lanes, and to improve the designs which were created.

The work is expected to be ready by the end of summer.

Minister Borg said that, “with the increase of lanes in this direction and by optimizing the design of the roundabouts on this road, we are increasing its capacity to cope with the present and future demands and to keep reducing the travelling times along this route. As this road and the adjacent roads become more efficient, air pollution from vehicle emissions because of heavy traffic will also decrease.”
