Parents who took their children to play on the swings in the centre of Naxxar were shocked at the huge amount of bird droppings on the equipment. Carpets, benches, swings, a slide and other items on which children tend to clamber were covered in bird droppings, as the attached photographs illustrate.
Replying to questions put by TVM about this situation, Naxxar Local Council stated that awnings were affixed over the benches and on a set of swings in recent days, adding that cleaning of the area is scheduled for tomorrow morning.
The Council added that it is discussing the issue with architects to find a practical solution for covering the rest of the swings, although this may prove difficult in view of the layout, particularly because of the large trees in the area.
The Council stated that efforts will continue towards an arrangement with the contractor leading to regular cleaning, although the swings have been cleaned more frequently that before in recent months.
