What does Christian Vieri think about Cristiano Ronaldo?

From a professional footballer to an international DJ carrying out musical tours – that is how the career of ex-international Italian striker Christian Vieri has developed. He was in Malta for a short while and was among the DJs who participated in a musical event for youths at Ta’ Qali.

In a 20-year football career, Vieri scored 200 goals for the clubs he played for and 23 goals for The Azzurri. I met Vieri just before he left Malta after on Friday evening he performed before a large crowd including many Italian youths who came to Malta for the event to attend the Summer Daze Festival at Ta’ Qali. He spoke to TVM about his changed career and his family.

“We have a nice show and now we are going to start to go around the world. We had a baby nine months ago, well my wife, I got married. Big things happening. My daughter Stella is the best thing that ever happened in my whole life”.

Vieri is remembered for his illustrious footballing career as one of the best players. He started off with Torino but then moved on to play for Juventus, Lazio, Milan, Inter and Atletico Madrid before ending his playing career with Fiorentina ten years ago.

“I had a lot of fun and played with big teams, big tournaments, big cups so it’s a dream come true. But sooner or later you have to stop playing. I liked all my years I played and you know when you are a small kid your dream is to play in Serie A and the national team and when you achieve that you know it’s good for you, everything is positive”.

A week before the start of Italy’s Serie A, we spoke to Vieri about Champions Juve and the teams challenging them.

“They are the strongest team, they have been winning for the past 7 – 8 years. They have Cristiano Ronaldo. They got some new players, new coach but you can’t win every year forever sooner or later they are going to lose one title. So I think, Inter, Napoli this year are going to give Juventus a really hard time”.

While many Italian football enthusiasts are looking forward to the duels between Juve’s Cristiano Ronaldo and Inter’s new acquisition from Manchester United, Romelu Lukaku, Vieri, who played for both these sides, said the only duel in competitive football is just between two players in particular.

“It’s Messi and Ronaldo above everyone. They have scored 700 goals in the last 15 years. It’s been them two. No one can compete against them two. They are just another level, another planet”.

Tourism Minister Konrad Mizzi also met Christian Vieri and they spoke of further collaboration to continue placing Malta on the map in the musical scene.
