Another protestor has lost his life in Belarus while being held in Police custody. This is the second fatality since Sunday, when protestors took to the streets. These protests following the country’s Presidential elections escalated to the extent that protestors came to blows with the Police.
The demonstrators started protesting shortly after the leader, Alexander Lukashenko, who has been in power since 1994, was declared the winner of the Presidential elections which took place over the weekend. The vote was condemned by the EU, which said that it was not a fair or free vote.
The Police said that the cause of the 25-year-old’s death is still not known, with the victim’s mother saying that her son suffered from heart problems and was detained for many hours inside the Police van.
Meanwhile, following the fourth day of protests, the UN has condemned the use of violence by the authorities.
