UPDATED: Man in danger of death after Birkirkara stabbing

A young man, aged 26, is in a grievous condition in hospital after being stabbed with a knife in the early hours of this morning. He was found by members of the Rapid Intervention Unit at around 1.10 am in Triq Tumas Fenech, Birkirkara. Police are treating the case as one of attempted homicide.

Sources close to the Police said a call had been received that a car was in the street, stationery but with the engine running and that a young man had emerged from the car with chest wounds and was requesting help. When Police arrived he was almost unconscious and slumped on the pavement.

Further investigations revealed blood stains in front of an apartment block a short distance away as well as further stains in the common entrance and leading up to the first floor. It seems the injured man was trying to seek the help of friends who lived in an apartment there but for some reasons they did not hear his calls.

Police are searching for a man in the Qawra area in whose name the vehicle had been rented.

The case is being investigated by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and District Police.
