Youngest UK Labour MP to giver half her salary to charity

Nadia Whittome, 23, is the youngest MP to be elected to the House of Commons in last Thursday’s general election after topping the poll in Nottingham East. This was not the only reason she stood out.

Whittome has promised to give more than half her salary to charity, and will continue to do so until many vocational workers, such as carers, nurses and teaching assistants, are given a pay rise.

She said that representatives should have a salary that reflects that of the workers they represent, so she will be giving £ 44,000 a year to charitable organizations and keeping £ 35,000 for herself.
