Youth arraigned in Court after brawl in a Rabat establishment

A 23-year old youth from Gudja was arraigned in Court on Sunday morning charged with grievously injuring Nathan Luke Borg, broke his spectacles and breached public order. The incident occurred at an establishment in the limits of Rabat on Saturday.

The youth, who was arraigned before Magistrate Victor Axiak, pleaded not guilty. Prosecuting Inspector Matthew Galea told the court that a clear message is needed that there is no room for fighting at entertainment establishments.

The defence stated that the accused was assaulted while in the company of his partner by a group of persons and defended himself. It also requested a ban on the publication of the accused name as he started a new job and requested his release from custody.

The Court upheld the requests and the youth was released from custody on a €1,000 bail deposit and a personal guarantee of €9,000.

Magistrate Axiak also issued a protection order for the victim and order the accused not to contact him for a four-year period.
