Żejtun trees destroyed in storm to be replanted

A heavy storm in February had destroyed a number of trees, including trees in the area known as Wesgħet l-Għajn tal-Bhejjem in Żejtun.

Whilst posting ‘before’ and ‘after’ photographs of the area on social media, the Wirt iż-Żejtun society stated that all that remains are three cypress trees and two other trees known as palmijiet tal-ġummar.

Wirt iż-Żejtun added that it had asked the Local Council for permission to ‘adopt’ this space with the aim of restoring it to its former green glory and the Local Council accepted.

The society is calling on the public to turn up on Sunday and give a helping hand in the planting and watering of no less than 135 new trees and plants in this area, including mulberry trees in the area around the mill.
