Palumbo Shipyard employee very grievously injured in fire at the ‘yard

An employee of Palumbo Shipyard is recovering in the Intensive Treatment Unit at Mater Dei after suffering serious injuries in a fire in the ‘yard’s electrical plant. Another employee was also injured but fortunately only suffered slight injuries.

The incident happened at about 2.15pm this afternoon while works were being carried out in the plant. Civil Protection employees were immediately called to the ‘yard and the two men were taken to hospital by other employees without an ambulance having to be called.

A statement issued by Palumbo said the two employees are in a stable condition but TVM is informed that one of the employees, a 45-year-old man from Naxxar was certified to be grievously injured and placed in ITU. The other man, a 55-year-old employee from Fgura suffered slight injuries.

Duty Magistrate Gabriella Vella was informed of the incident and appointed experts to investigate.

Investigations are also being carried out by Cospicua District Police.
