Zurrieq accident: Double decker company communicating with operator to try and establish what happened

The company City Sightseeing said it was shocked and saddened on learning that one of its double decker vehicles was involved in the accident which took place yesterday in Zurrieq.

In a statment, the company said that its thoughts are with the victims of the tragic accident.

It added that it is in communication with the operator of the franchise to establish exactly what happened and that it was not in a position to add further comments about this case at this point.

The accident took place yesterday in Triq Valletta, Zurrieq, and left two people dead – a man, 62 from Belgium and a woman, 37, from Spain.

In all, around 50 people were injured between those who were taken to the hospital and the health centre. Six of those injured were in serious condition, with four of them in Intensive Care. One of the adults in ITU was operated on last night in a major operation for the grievous neck injuries he had sustained.  12 of those injured are children, with two of them still in ITU. Those who are receiving treatment are all tourists, except for the driver and his relative.
