Following the great success of previous visits, Balzan Academy has announced that former AC Milan player Andrea Icardi, now a professional youth coach, will again be in Malta to run training sessions for boys in age groups for those born between 2001 and 2009 on Tuesday 8 December.
Icardi said: “I am looking forward to visiting Malta again and am keen to see how Balzan Academy continues to develop its young players. I am also eager to see all the boys at my training sessions and to see if there are any boys who have the right skills and attitude to be able to join up with the teams I will have playing in Italy in various prestigious youth tournaments in 2016.”
Balzan President Anton Tagliaferro said “Andrea’s visits to Malta in the past have always generated great interest and boys attending have really benefited from Andrea’s professionalism and enthusiasm for the game. One of Balzan Academy’s aims is for boys in Malta to experience different coaching styles provided by top quality coaches such as Andrea.“
Balzan Academy Director Timmy Gambin said “We continue to make excellent progress at Balzan Academy as we continue towards our target of becoming Malta’s most elite youth Academy. This season, for the first time in Balzan’s history our Under 15, Under 17 and Under 19 teams are all playing in Section A competitions. The use of the new St Aloysius facilities by our Academy has also given our Academy a real boost.”
Anton Tagliaferro concluded by saying “ I am satisfied that at Balzan Academy we now have the right mix of what is needed to produce good Maltese players for the future in that we now have the right blend of qualified coaches, well structured training programmes and great facilities in place. I truly believe that there is every reason to believe that Balzan Academy can professionally develop any ambitious Maltese boys who dream of having a future career in football and help them fulfill their dreams.”
