On Saturday 7th March 2020, the exhibition ‘Folder 78A: Library Plans and Drawings’ opens at the National Library of Malta – Valletta. This exhibition marks the last phase of a collaboration project between Malta Libraries and the Public Works Department which started way back in 2018.
Folder 78A is located in the Records and Archives Section of the Public Works Department which manages a substantial collection of architectural plans, drawings and other documents, mostly dating to the 19th and 20th centuries. This specific folder contains over 150 documents ranging from architectural plans and elevations of the National Library of Malta to documents related to the design of the Library’s furniture as well as plans for the transfer of parts of the original Library building to third parties. The folder also contains a limited number of plans and drawings pertaining to the National Library Gozo branch, as well as to the Central Public Library in Floriana.
Showcased in this exhibition are some examples from the contents of Folder 78A following their restoration and digitisation at the National Library of Malta. Through the selected exemplars, one can get a good idea of the variety of plans, drawings and other documents that are contained within it, which are being exhibited for the very first time.
Admission is free to the general public during library opening hours till 16 April 2020. Visitors are asked to bring along an identification document to register their entry at the reception desk. For more info email [email protected] or https://www.facebook.com/events/929835610808711/
