With preparations in full swing for both organisers and delegations for this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, the Maltese Delegation just revealed that world-class choreographer and creative director Ambra Succi will be responsible for the on-stage look of this year’s Maltese representative, Michela together with multi-award winning studio Front Pictures, renowned for their video, interactive design, graphics and stage visuals.
The song, which has been recently released on all Digital portals, was written by Symphonix who are no strangers to success in Eurovision securing a Top 4 Position in the last 3 years. Malta has always taken Eurovision entries seriously but this year we want to try a different approach. For the first time ever an X Factor winner is going straight to Eurovision. 18-year-old Michela had her first room audition go viral with close to 6 million views on X Factor Global. The astonishing feedback towards her powerful and natural breaking voice was indeed justified, as she was eventually crowned Malta’s first X Factor winner.
There’s no doubt Michela can sing live and deliver fantastic vocals as seen on X Factor but no one expected such a song like ‘Chameleon’ which immediately placed Malta well in the betting odds and is currently the second most viewed video on you tube with lots of fans reacting very positively. This is a first for Malta not to showcase their act beforehand in the Eurovision pre-parties but with the staging team now revealed it’s definitely no co-incidence.
Ambra Succi’s creative skills have left the mark in various distinguished shows, including the Eurovision Song Contest itself, as Ambra was responsible for Loreen’s Euphoria winning performance way back in 2012. This performance is till this day seen as one of the best stage performances the Eurovision stage has ever seen. Other notable projects that Ambra has worked on revolved around choreography for Green Day’s Musical, the main choreography on X Factor Sweden and choreography for multiple acts on the world-renowned Melodifestivalen. Ambra stated that Michela is a natural artist she can’t wait to deliver an experience to the TV audience as well as the live arena.
Also crowned as past Eurovision winners, the stage graphics and visuals are in the hands of Front Pictures who have created and curated from conception to implementation stage, Jamala’s 1944 visual experience during the 2016 edition of The Eurovision Song Contest. A captivating show made sure that Ukraine would clinch the winner’s title that year. Recently, Front Pictures created amazing visuals for Pink’s hit song ‘Try’ at the Brit Awards 2019. Prior to that, they had a massive global impact with their innovative performance at America’s Got Talent showing us that their work is like no other. A representative for Front Pictures stated that this project is special for them as it brings the company back to the Eurovision Stage, and they intend to deliver one great experience, which will revolve around the uniqueness of the Maltese entry, Chameleon.
It seems Michela is going to have something very special to showcase in Tel Aviv, which will be seen for the first time in the 2nd Semi-Final.
