Richard Micallef was born on the Mediterranean islands of Malta in 1982. Music is something that runs through his blood and always had an important role to play in his life. His Father “Joe Goerge” also a Maltese popular artist has been a professional entertainer for his own musical career and played an important role in Richard’s musical growth.
Joe George first began his musical journey at the tender age of thirteen when he joined a local band in Malta. Listening and playing rock and roll hits by legends such as Elvis, Cliff Richard and the Shadows became a passion inspiring his move to Australia at the age of eighteen. During his early years in Australia Joe continued performing and writing songs until he joined a popular showband in the 1970’s. This period provided Joe with unforgettable experiences, one of which was touring Vietnam to entertain American troops. Later the same decade Joe returned to Malta where he met his wife, Diane and started his musical family, he successfully continued on his musical path introducing his children to the same love for music along the way.
Richard started his musical journey performing in local pubs and hotels around the Malta much like his father. As Richard explored his teenage years he also took a great interest in songwriting and alongside performing this became his passion in life. In 2006, Richard ventured out of Malta to the UK, where he enjoyed touring many parts of the UK. Richard also auditioned for “The X Factor “receiving the thumbs up from Simon Cowell. In 2010 he returned to Malta to launch his solo career with the song “Finally”. The song placed 2nd in the Malta Eurovision song festival and became a local favorite.
In 2013 Firelight was born, the Band embraces Richard’s family roots with his three Siblings plus two other band members. Firelight proudly represented Malta in the Eurovision song 2014 with the song ‘Coming Home’.
2018, brings Joe and Richard performing side by side with Richard’s composition “Song for Dad” the song is one of the sixteen Finalist for Malta Eurovision Song 2018 and Richard says ” This will be the last time competing in this festival , finishing this Eurovision journey with a bang, saving the best for last with a secret weapon called … JOE GOERGE :p”
