So Simple – Crosswalk
Composers:- Dean Muscat/Boris Cezek
Authors:- Dean Muscat/Boris Cezek
Formed in 1999, Crosswalk began as a band between two friends, drummer Steve Camilleri Bowman and guitarist Kenny D’Ugo, who shared a love for live music. Over the years, the band has experimented with different music genres from rock to alternative, pop to country. Thanks to their strong work ethic, Crosswalk has become much-loved around the live circuit performing at countless local music festivals. The band is also known for being one of Malta’s most sought-after wedding bands.
Songwriter and producer Boris Cezek joined the band in 2012 on bass duties and Janice Debattista became the band’s new lead singer only last year. With this new line-up, Crosswalk has found a revitalised energy to write, perform and share their music with new audiences.
While this is Crosswalk’s first time participating in the Malta Eurovision Song Contest, the band shares a surprisingly rich history with the competition. Janice is a former contestant, who made it to the local MESC finals in 2013 with her song Perfect Day. That entry was incidentally written by Boris, who also co-wrote that year’s winning song Tomorrow sung by Gianluca Bezzina. What’s more, Kenny was the ukulele player in Gianluca’s band and went on to perform as part of the ensemble at the Eurovision finals in Malmö, Sweden. Keen not to be left out of all the fun, Steve watched the whole event fervently from his sofa at home.
So Simple is a country-infused song written by Boris Cezek and Dean Muscat. Musically, the band tried to capture that famous Nashville sound that highlights the things they love about music most; live, organic instruments and authentic performances. Crosswalk hopes their entry serves as a positive reminder that no matter how complicated and crazy the outside world becomes, the things that give life meaning are usually the simplest. Whether it’s a loved one, friend, child or a cherished pet, we all need someone to give us hope and make us smile.
