Government announces launch of land reclamation expression of interest process

Parliamentary Secretary Michael Farrugia said that government is soliciting expressions of interest for proposals regarding land reclamation. Dr Farrugia said that Malta has a high land to sea area ratio and has to seek innovative ways in which to maximise its resources. Dr Farrugia said that government is willing to see the proposals put forward and will evaluate them in the light of economic, technical and financial sustainability as well as environmental acceptability.

Dr Farrugia recalled that land reclamation has been used in Malta on a limited scale in projects such as Portomaso, Msida Marina and the Freeport. PS Farrugia said that after the expression of interest phase, government will launch a request for proposal process so that the proposals will be evaluated in depth on technical, legal, financial and environmental levels.
