Auxiliary bishop-elect Charles Scicluna expressed dismay at what he perceived to be a prejudice against religious beliefs.
This dismay was expressed int he context of the interrogation Commissioner Designate Tonio Borg received at the hands of the Euro-parliamentarians. In the grilling, Dr Borg was passed through the mill for previously taken positions regarding abortion an gay rights. Dr Borg said that, whatever his beliefs he would uphold EU law.
Mgr Scicluna described the situation as saddening. He conjectured what would happen if the commissioner designate were to be a Muslim, with that religion’s particular perspective on life.
