The first rain of the season, or the last rain of the year … barely a week before the start of the meteorological year, Malta is being deluged by a storm. Forecast since late last week, the storm comes three days shy of the feast of St Bartholemew, to whom, Maltese tradition gives the Keys, symbolising the opening of the wet season.
Reports of heavy rain are comming in from Mellieha and Rabat, where, in the latter, hail is also reported to have fallen.

Meanwhile, government announced that it has ordered the immediate clean-up of Xlendi in Gozo. The debris deposited by the rains in this veritable delta at the mouth of Xlendi Valley will be cleared to ensure that the area is clean for the holiday season.
