Labour Party alleges failure of the penal system

Dr Michael Falzon, main spokesperson for Security and Immigration for the Labour Party (PL) said that recent statistics show that one out of three inmates in Corradino Civil Prisons is a repeat offender. He said that this is evidence of failure in the current system, a failure which he said that the PL has been recurrently pointing out.

Dr Falzon expressed the opinion that the situation in the prisons has deteriorated, citing the presence of drugs, the depleted infrastructure and the lack of staff as evidence. He said that the reversion of this responsibility to the Office of the Prime Minister has led to a further decline. He said that there was even an alleged hunger strike initiated as a consequence of the current situation.

The PL spokesperson alleged several abuses and raised questions on issues relating to the prisons.
