Calm, intellectual and dressed in a typical Oxonian fashion. This is the description which Prime Minister Joseph Muscat gave to the statue erected by the Labour Party in memory of the late Dom Mintoff, former Premier of Malta. Dr Muscat made the announcement at the Labour Party headquarters where he credited Mr Mintoff of having been the one to first conceive the concept of a political movement bringing together people from all walks of life. The monument is to be finished before April.
The Prime Minister said the monument was already paid for, as Mr Mintoff would have liked, thanks to fundraising by the committee in charge. The committee would now be releasing 96 gold medals for sale to pay for a yearly scholarship to a Maltese student.
