The Czech Republic beat Malta 4-1 at Ta’ Qali with two goals each half to leave Malta pointless from five home outings and put a dent on Michael Mifsud’s centenary cap celebrations.
The Czechs were already ahead in the 3rd minute through Hübschman and Lafata made it two after the half hour mark. Michael Mifsud did pull one back for Malta at the beginning of the second half; but Kadlec just four minutes later put an end to any hopes of a revival. Tomas Pekhart sealed the issue beyond any doubt in injury time.
In other Group B matches, Italy saved a point with a last gasp goal against Denmark in Copenhagen for a 2-2 draw, while Armenia beat Bulgaria 2-1.
With Italy already assured of a berth in the World Cup finals in Brazil next summer, all depends on the last day matches on Tuesday to determine who between Denmark, Bulgaria, and possibly even the Czech Republic or Armenia, might win a play-off spot.
